There is no washer or anything to fill that gap and keep it stationary. The standoffs fit, but there is room for the backplate to move.
COOLER MASTER HYPER 212 INSTALLATION AM3 HOW TO
I cannot find any youtube videos on people doing anything other than the LGA 1151/AM3 installations, nor can I find anyone discussing how to fit this X bracket with the backplate. Their guide on installation is not at all specific about a backplate. Supposedly this is all you need to mount the cooler to the AM4.

COOLER MASTER HYPER 212 INSTALLATION AM3 INSTALL
The X bracket requires you to remove these retention bars and install standoffs that are included with the X bracket. One type of bracket locks to the black retention bars above and below the socket. No matter what, you are using the default AM4 backplate that should have come preinstalled on your motherboard. There are two types of brackets, and you use one or the other. I'll leave this post up for future reference, as there is some confusing info about mounting this cooler to AM4 out there. Do as I say, not as I do.Ĭooler is now successfully installed. Install the cooler with just the motherboard sitting on a flat surface. I had installed the cooler with the motherboard already in the case.
